The Kennedys performed a House Concert here on Saturday, February 21, 2004.

Our February 21st House Concert with the The Kennedys was the truly amazing night we promised... and much more.

The husband and wife team of Maura and Pete Kennedy play jangly folk-pop shot through with influences of the Bryds and Beatles. The couple's first date came at Buddy Holly's grave in Lubbock, Texas, while their first gig was held in Liverpool as part of Nanci Griffith's Blue Moon Orchestra. Working in tandem, they discovered a shared love for American roots rock 'n' roll and British pop and folk rock.

Pete Kennedy had also formerly worked with Mary-Chapin Carpenter and before that with Kate Wolf. Maura had formerly been a member of the Austin country group, The Delta Rays. Pete's exquisite Rockenbacher guitar tones gelled easily with Maura's sweet voice and her own rhythmic guitar playing as their 1995 debut album drew excellent reviews with Goldmine magazine recommending the record as a "nearly flawless amalgamation of the sort of ringing Brydsy guitars and gorgeous floating harmonies that make a pure pop fan swoon."

The lastest CD by The Kennedys is called Stand which has gotten regular rotation at our home and made our list of the ten best albums of 2003. We highly recommend each of their 7 albums, but particularly River of Fallen Stars (1995), Life is Large (1996), and Positively Live (2001).

For our house concert, we also had very special guests Freebo (longtime member of Bonnie Raitt's band) and Kenny Edwards (longtime member of Linda Ronstadt and Karla Bonoff's bands as well as co-founder of The Stone Ponys and Bryndle) who helped out by backing The Kennedys. This led to some amazingly great jamming that truly left our audience spellbound. Thank you Pete, Maura, Freebo and Kenny for a truly memorable evening!!
