What do you get when you cross Bonnie Raitt with Janis Joplin? You just might have a good description of the truly amazing CAROLINE AIKEN. About Caroline, our good friend Freebo says, "Caroline is a phenomenal guitar player, a singer with exceptional pitch mixed with a deep, soulful, bluesy style, and she writes great songs. Besides this excellent combination of elements, her performance and demeanor will completely captivate you. We did a house concert together and she blew me away... I'm a huge fan."
"Caroline is the first musician to take me in... she has wisdom and she shares it," says Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls. Marilyn Rae Beyer, P.G. of WUMB Boston says, "Big voice, big guitar, big talent." Pierce Pettis, Grammy nominated writer and performer says, "She's dangerous, she'll blow the doors off the place." Victory Music in Seattle says, "Sensual voice, expert guitar, masterful songwriting."
Caroline has opened for everyone under the sun. She was befriended by the incomparable Bonnie Raitt in 1985, and after opening for Bonnie a few times more, Bonnie graciously agreed to record on Caroline's first album in 1987. Caroline has independently produced 5 CDs, two of which were chosen by Performing Songwriter Magazine as top "Do-It-Yourself" releases. They also garnered national critical acclaim on shows such as Acoustic Cafe, and on 200+ stations across the country. Caroline has also appeared on many TV and radio shows by invitation around the country. Caroline has been a Main Stage performer at the Kerrville Folk Festival since 1995.
Historically, Caroline has opened for and/or played with: Bonnie Raitt, Muddy Waters, Randy Newman, Allen Toussaint, Leo Kottke, Taj Mahal, John Prine, Hot Tuna, Janis Ian, Rory Block, Indigo Girls, Sea Island Singers, Art Garfunkle, John Hammond Jr., Mother's Finest, David Bromberg, Louden Wainwright III, 38 Special, Little Feat Reunion, Doc Watson, Dave Mason, and Arlo Guthrie among many others.
For our well attended house concert, Caroline proceeded to blow everyone away. She showcased her great songwriter and amazing guitar playing ability... including ample examples of why some consider her one of the finest 12-string guitar players around. Caroline is the real thing and we were honored that she agreed to perform at Russ & Julie's House Concerts.
