In late Spring 1998, DARRYL PURPOSE and DARYL S. dazzled a crowd of over 50 people. Between Darryl's amazing songwriting and guitar playing and Daryl S.'s unmatched violin viruosity, we were treated to another very special evening.
Darryl Purpose was a classical guitar major in college, when wrist problems forced him to drop out, go to Las Vegas, and become one of the world's most skillful professional blackjack players. In 1995, Darryl returned to music and completed his first solo CD. Right Side of Zero garnered rave reviews from the acoustic-oriented media, and was played on more than 300 stations nationwide. It spent three months on the Gavin Americana Chart. Darryl won first place at the finals of the National Songwriter Competition held in January 1998 in Ft. Lauderdale! (His song "Mr. Schwinn" was named "Best Ballad".) Darryl performed in the competition on Saturday and was invited to perform a set on Sunday, and both days was accompanied by the talented Daryl S.
Daryl S. is a nationally reknowned violinist who has performed or recorded with such diverse groups as Depeche Mode, Guns 'n Roses, Al Stewart and Michael Sherwood.
Darryl Puprose and Daryl S. worked together on Darryl's second album, Same River Twice, our favorite of his releases. He has since recorded two additional albums, including the wonderful 2001 album The Crooked Line. For more information, please visit Darryl's website at www.darrylpurpose.com.
